Introducing The Dispatch, from Africa

The Dispatch

— From Africa

Hundreds of millions of Africans across the continent go to work everyday, both in formal and informal sectors. An estimated 350 million of those belong to the youth demographic, a number that is expected to grow steadily. In fact, it is estimated that by 2050, 1 in 4 people on Earth will be from the continent.

These are not mere figures; taken into context, they represent a collective, validly promising future for the African people. The more urgent question is, therefore, with the vast human resource wealth— labour, ideas, high productivity, natural resources, and market: what will it take for the people in Africa to be self-sufficient?

As a continent with endless opportunities and possibilities, Africa is integral in its own success but also global prosperity. The continent’s story cannot be ignored, or only told through a single lens. In pursuit of this prosperity, situating the possibilities and opportunities, and exploiting them for the collective benefit of all, telling the African story is integral. It is a journey that will demand the input of diverse, forward-looking voices keen on reflecting on history, examining the present and realigning to build a future for all.

For the great part, this is what Dispatch Africa seeks to do: to tell Africans’ own story from within. From where we sit, Africans and Africa can only rise, the challenges notwithstanding. Exploring and explaining the “how” of this rise: how businesses are built and sustained; how political landscapes across countries continue to adjust and evolve; how the youth are breaking barriers and ceilings; how innovations are solving intractable challenges; how the African is putting best foot forward: all deserve attention. And that is a core part of our mission at Dispatch Africa.  Importantly, our stories will be told from the perspective of Africa’s decision-makers – including policy makers, business executives, startup founders, regulators and political story.

This starts with our first story by Martin Siele, a documentary filmmaker at Africa Uncensored, contributor at Semafor and now co-founder of The Dispatch. He spoke to Peng Chen, founder of the ticketing platform and entertainment venue Alchemist on his newest venture – boxing and MMA promotion. Subscribe to receive the The Dispatch Africa newsletter this and every week in your email, and updates on our new content including videos and podcasts.

We are stoked to welcome you to come along in this journey of rediscovering and (re)telling our stories across different spheres, keeping up with the urgency demanded by the fast-paced world. Take a seat, enjoy the dispatches of Africa from within.
